Excerpt: Chapter 27: Scrooge
Soul? Are you all right?
“No, I’m not, Jo. Right at this exact moment, my heart is breaking for you. There is so much you don’t understand, and you won’t understand until you learn to be honest with yourself. I could tell you that God hasn’t deserted you, but I understand you won’t believe that. Do you know why you can’t believe that God hasn’t deserted you?”
No. I really don’t. Honest to God, I have tried to understand. I have tried to see what you’re trying to show me, and I hear the words you speak. But I don’t know why, Soul.
“I will tell you, though it’s completely against the rules–and I could lose my Soul license for this, Jo. The only person who has deserted you is yourself. And until you see that, until you feel that in your heart, the way I feel it as your Soul, you are inert.
“Have you done a good job? Oh yes, you have. Look at all that you accomplished. Your family. All that love and tenderness that you gave to your parents, your children, to Max. Your loyalty and your devotion. So why are you so defensive about your Harvard outburst? It was one of the few times in your life when you know you acted selfishly. You need to admit that it was okay to do that, and recognize why you did it. Stop burying your truth Jo. It’s okay to make mistakes.” About the author:
