7 years ago when The Veil opened, magic seeped out. A war erupted between paranormals and the south. Now anyone who is magic gets locked away in Devil's Isle. If that was not bad enough, if you find out that you are a sensitive, your life is basically over. Sensitives turn into wraiths and kill anyone and everyone.
Claire Connelly has lived in New Orleans forever. She now runs and lives at her dads shop. Here life was normal post war until one day she found out that she has magic. She has been staying under the radar until one day she decides to save a girl from being killed by wraiths. SHe exposes herself and is about to run when Liam shows up.
He knows what she is and knows what he could become, but decides to help her. He wants to teach her control so that maybe she does not turn into a monster. That is not the most pressing issue. hey need to deal with the wraiths and everything is not what it seems.
I loved this book. It has been awhile since I read the first book in the series and eel in love with it. You aree introduced to Claire and given her back story. The city and war are explained but not to the point you feel bored. You can actually picture everything and feel like you are part of the story. I like that she is a strong woman who knows how to take care of herself. Her and Liam form a partnership and not just some girl falling all over her rescuer. I like how their relationship develops. He is not to macho that he can not be vulnerable.
I have read many of Chloe's books and I have loved them all. She is so skilled at writing characters that are real and relateable, even if its a magical world. Her females heroes are characters to respect and admire. I so can not wait to read more in this series! I know it is going to be awesome.
