What to make when you have cabbage? Haluski

Earlier in the week I made a Korean meal for the hubby. I had bought a small head of cabbage to make a slaw to go with our meal, then ran out of time to make it.
So I was left with a whole head of cabbage in the fridge and no idea what to do with it. Then I remembered when I was little my mom making haluski, or cabbage with noodles. It was one of my favorite meals. Well outside of pasta.
It is such a easy meal to make and very cheap.

First you cut up a head of cabbage and throw it into a large pot with at least 1/2 stick of butter. Cook until the cabbage cooks down significantly.
I also added some garlic because I love garlic.
While the cabbage is cooking down, start cooking some noodles. We always made ours with egg noodles but apparently I was out. So I just used a box of spiral noodles.
When the noodles are done cooking and the cabbage is cooked down, add the noodles to the cabbage. Add more butter. I added another stick plus a good amount of salt and pepper.
Now all down. It easy, good and a cheap meal. Plus you can customize it however you want. Alot of people add bacon or anything else they want but I like it simple.
This meal adds up to around $5 and was enough to feed 3 of my boys, my husband, my brother in law and myself.
Whats your favorite simple meal?

My Review

3.8/5
Chira is the main character and she seems like a very nice normal person. She meets Ben and he interests her since she cant figure him out. Chira and Tasha go with a group to tour a haunted house and then everything spirals downward. Friends start getting hurt and dying. Before you know it almost all of Chira's group is gone. Even more strange is someone is following her and she has no idea who it is. I love watching Ben and Chira's relationship develop. A good read with some mystery involved.

Read an excerpt from the book : She rips my hall pass from her pad and points it toward the young man sitting across from her desk. “Chira Kelley, meet Ben Oscuro. He’s new here and needs someone to show him around. It just so happens he’s also a member of class 18B.” I finally focus on the boy. He doesn’t look up at me, and his disheveled dark hair is just long enough that it hides his eyes. But he pushes himself up from his chair, and his slim form towers over me. He’s at least six-feet-two and his uniform is almost as crumpled as his hair. He swings his backpack onto a strong, square shoulder and nibbles his full bottom lip. His smooth olive skin and dark hair make him look like a foreign rocker, and there’s something about him that seems vaguely familiar. “Here’s a copy of his class schedule. When you’re not in the same class, I want you to leave a few minutes early and help him find the next class room. That’s your job for today. Got it?” I swallow back and resist sniffling again. Taking the hall pass and the copy of the schedule from her, I say, “Um…sure.” “Excellent. Robin, you’re off the hook.” The office aide pumps a fist in the air before returning to file more papers in the cabinet. The secretary’s chair squeals a dismissal, and Mrs. Campbell picks up her phone, returning to her duties without another word. Ben pulls open the office door and stands to the side to allow me to go first. The hallway that was empty only a short while ago is now full of students and their continuous conversations. With a shrug, I eye his class schedule quickly. Except for second and sixth period, we have exactly the same schedule. He’s in all of the advanced classes, too. Only he has gym for second period and Latin for sixth – opposite of my schedule, except I take French. Piece of cake. I glance up at him again, and his eyes meet mine. My breath hitches. His intense gaze makes me feel like he’s measuring me. The dark pools of his eyes seem deep and bottomless, but there’s something strange about them. They’re brown, but he has colored contacts. Why would anyone color their eyes brown? My heart flutters. A sniffle escapes me before I can stop it. Ugh. I clear my throat and start in the direction of first period. “Follow me.” We elbow our way down the freshman hall toward the second floor, but before we start up I point down the way. “Do you know what your locker number is?” Ben nods and pushes his backpack on his shoulder farther. I wait for a second and then smile. “What is it?” “706.” He has a slight accent, and his voice is deeper than I expect. I suppress a shiver at the jolt the musical timbre of his voice sends through my body. I’m resonating like a tuning fork. I really want him to speak again with every fiber of my being. What’s with me? “Uh…okay.” I swallow, trying to regain composure. I take him to the general area of the locker. “Here it is.” He looks at it, nods, and returns his hard gaze to me. Is he always so stiff? Probably just nerves from being new. “I know you don’t have any books to put in it, but do you want to try out the combination?” He lifts one shoulder in a shrug and spins the combo quickly through the three numbers. I purposefully avert my eyes so he knows I’m not peeking. He opens the locker wide, nods toward me, and then closes it again. “Great. We have first period over here.” “You and I have the same first period?” My body vibrates again, and I blink hard. So glad my back was to him so he couldn’t see the effect his voice has on me. I swallow and face him. “Actually, yeah. Our schedules are very similar. It’s a smallish school, so there’re only a few tracks that juniors can be on.” He nods, and his eyes are half lidded as if he’s bored already. I lead him toward our classroom. “We don’t really have assigned seats, so you can pretty much sit anywhere you want. I’ll show you to the gym at the end of class. I have French next, but it’s not too far from there.” I lead him to the front of the class, and my friend Tasha gives me a wan smile and raises her eyebrows, looking back and forth between me and Ben. She mouths, Who’s that? I roll my eyes and put up one finger toward her to let her know I’ll tell her in a minute. Then I turn to the teacher. I hand him the schedule from the office. “Hi, Mr. Scott, this is Ben Oscuro, a transfer.” Mr. Scott’s kind blue eyes smile at us both. He sets down the Mountain Dew he was drinking and offers Ben a wide grin. He puts a hand out for him to shake. Ben hesitates but takes the hand in what looks like a firm grip. Mr. Scott shakes his hand afterward. “That’s some grip you’ve got there.” He laughs and leans down to the bottom drawer of his desk and hands Ben a geography text book. With a nod, I return to Tasha and squeeze into the desk next to hers. I’m at Jackson Hall partially on my father’s insurance money partially on scholarship because my stepdad works at the school. What he does, I don’t know, because I’ve never seen him. Because of all this, I’m somewhat of a social pariah. My only real friend is Tasha Brown, a pariah herself, being one of the few African-American kids in the school. Still she tends to be more popular than me, because at least her family has the money they’ve made in the night club and music business. But then there’s that rumor… “So who is the new hottie?” Tasha hops up and down in her seat. I shake my head at her. “You are one big hormone, you know that? Sure, he’s cute, but is there any guy in the room you don’t consider a hottie?” Tasha scans the room with her hand on her chin and a very serious expression on her face. Her hair is in the typical pigtail braids she usually uses to play up the uniform. She has on no sweater, and her shirt is one size too small, the buttonholes at the front stretched to expose part of her red bra. Finally she returns her gaze to me. “There’s only one guy in here that doesn’t rank hottie.” “Really? Who?” She leans in conspiratorially and whispers, “Mr. Scott.” I nearly choke on a laugh as I eye the middle-aged, balding teacher at the front of the room. But I have to admit, Jackson Hall is a prep school. And there's no one who can afford to make their children look their best more than the wealthy. I guess if I take my father’s words to heart, it’s better to be the poor kid in the rich kids’ school…than the other way around. Right? Tasha’s smile returns, and I follow her gaze to figure out why. Ben Oscuro walks down the aisle between us and takes the desk right behind mine. The hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. He smells like pine and mint, and it reminds me of the outdoors. When I open them again, Tasha’s smile has grown impossibly wider. She leans towards me and whispers, “What was that you said about hormones again?” I shove my elbow toward her, but she dodges me with a giggle.

Excerpt 1

"You have this knack for memorizing every detail and then capturing it on canvas later. Everyone who visits me asks about your paintings. I tell them that the artiest is special - one of a kind. I've even had a few people offer money to take your art home. I've had to turn them down."

Becca opened and shut her mouth again. He had to be pulling her leg on that last part.

"I'm serious. If I could take you home and introduce you, I bet you'd have people lining up to meet you."

She let out a laugh, but it came out more of a squeak. "You still have that way about you that flatters me every time."

"I'm sure you get flattery all the time. But I mean what I say." Hunter extracted his hand from hers and reached in his pocket. "I brought you something."

Before she had time to protest, Hunter pulled the item from his pocket and handed it to her. It was a small box, wrapped up in pretty blue paper. He pushed it across the table, urging her to open it.

Sometimes he acted like four years hadn't passed between them. Becca shook it off and reached for the box, carefully removing the perfectly wrapped ribbon, then tore into the box.

He didn't get her just one thing. There were multiple items inside. She held up a small seashell and a key chain.

"It's from Mexico. I bet you don't have any from there in your collection." At her silence, Hunter bit his lip. "Do you still collect them?"

She certainly did. She used to keep all her small keepsakes like these in a chest that had a lock on it. That way her grandparents could never get into the chest and search through her mementos and memories that only she would understand. Now that she lives by herself, she displays them proudly. Hunter knew her fear of flying, so every time he went somewhere new, he'd send her a piece of the world.

Hot tears pricked her eyes. "Thank you. They're beautiful. Perfect. I can't believe you remembered."

"I don't ever forget things when it comes to you, Rebecca. I have more, but I thought I'd bring those for now." A dark emotion flashed in his eyes. "I can't make up for the years I didn't show, nor will I try, because you can never make up for lost time. I just want you to know how important you are to me."

Excerpt 2:

"Guess what I found?" Hunter carried a sweater and a pair of sweatpants in his hands. "You'll be nice and warm in no time." He handed them to her.

Becca pointed to his head. She wished her words would just come out already.

"You don't want to change into dry clothes first?" He raised a brow, then winced. "Damn that hurts. Okay fine, you win. I will probably curse and go stark crazy, so bear with me please?"

She may not have been able to find her voice to speak, but a quiet laugh escaped her throat. At least, that's what she thought it was.

Hunter crossed his arms over his bare chest. "Are you laughing at me?" Amusement danced in his gorgeous eyes. "That's so messed up! There is a little devilish side to you after all. I like it," he teased.

Becca smirked and pointed at the first aid kit. She wondered if he remembered any of the sign language, back from when she'd been mute and unable to communicate all those years ago. But so far, he'd been able to understand what she needed. The very first time he came to visit her, he'd learned it so they could talk. She remembered that day well on her aunt's back porch when Hunter sat beside her. She nearly cried that he'd taken the time to understand sign language for her.

"All right little devil, have at it. Just don't get offended for any swear words I may use." He cracked a smile. She loved that he could still have a sense of humor. It showed that even though he had some injuries, he was the same old silly Hunter she knew. She pointed down at the floor, wanting him to kneel before her. Again, he cued in right away and lowered to his knees.

Becca opened up the first aid kit and searched for what she needed. As she pulled out a large bandage, cotton swabs and the small bottle of peroxide to clean the wound, Hunter hissed. She flicked her gaze back to him.

"Call it psychological warfare. I'm anticipating that it's going to sting like you wouldn't believe. I know, I know, I'm being a baby and I should just shut up." Hunter raised his hands. "Think you can do that one handed? I might need you to hold mine with the other."

Becca grinned and held out her hand. She wished her voice would work with her so she could tell him how cute he was being. She couldn't be too sure if he was putting on an act to make her laugh or if he really was bothered by what she had to do. Regardless, she felt needed. Important. Something she longed for. When his shaky fingers curled over hers, a ripple of electricity zipped through her.

Now those were strange, random thoughts.

"Your hand is so cold. Not that mine is any better," Hunter said softly. "I know, I'm stalling. I'm should just man up and take it, huh? You won't tell anyone about my weak side there, will you?" He chuckled.

She slid him a knowing grin and put a finger to her lips, then ran the finger across them as if to say 'My lips are sealed'.

"I knew I could count on you."

Excerpt 3:

"I echo that sentiment." Hunter chuckled. "What a night." They entered Range's and headed for the elevator. As the doors enclosed them in the small space, he turned to her again. Gently touching her face, Hunter inched closer. "Bec, I feel like we should talk about that kiss. That's the second time we've kissed and this year, I don't want to walk away without talking about it."

So that was still bothering him. And second kiss? So he did remember what happened four years ago. Well, shoot! She felt the heat rush to her face. She was so not ready to talk about this yet.

"It was just a kiss," she said softly. "We were caught up in the moment." Just a kiss? Oh, that was the wrong way to describe it. Hunter's kiss was on another level of amazing. She didn't know how to put it into words. She could get lost in a kiss like that under an umbrella in the rain. Or standing by the ocean while the sun set as the chilly waves danced around their feet.

Just like that, the room filled with an unseen energy charge between her and Hunter. What was that all about? She melted inside as his lips parted. What stopped her from kissing him again was the elevator. It jerked to a stop, signaling the arrival on her floor. The doors pulled apart.

"I'd better go," she muttered, tearing her gaze away from his face. She whirled and bolted, unsure of what to make of that tension she'd just felt. It wasn't the bad kind, not at all. It was the I-want-to-do-something-crazy-with-you kind.

Before the doors closed, she heard Hunter's quiet words. "It was more than just a kiss."

Back in her room, she leaned against the closed door and sank to the floor, touching her lips as if she could feel Hunter's still on them from yesterday. His voice echoed inside her head with his last comment. Yes, it was more than just a kiss.

For the past twenty years, Hunter had been her friend and mentor. On many occasions, her protector and voice of reason. The one who knew her weakness and fears, yet still loved her despite them.

Four years ago, something changed. And this year, it seemed to evolve. She had to push it out of her mind when he fell out of contact. She'd left it alone.

Until now.

Could it be they were both overly sensitive at making it through another storm ravaged accident and they were having mixed feelings? Or could it be so much more?

Title: Let Me Go
Author: DC Renee
Genre: Romance
Publication Date: March 19,2014

Add To GoodReads

3.8/5 stars
So this was a different story. It took awhile for it to come together but it still was pretty good. Its a classic case of mistaken identity. After Kat is taken, Mason realizes that its not all what it seems.  Finally after a year of being captive, she is free but in love. Kat sets out on a mission to clear Mason and figure out whats going on. but its not that simple.
Is their love real or just a side effect from being looked together for a year.
THe main annoying thing is Mason seems very stupid. I guess he has gone through things that can cause him issues but still. But thankfully he has friends who slap him straight. A good easy read.

About me, huh? Hmmm, let's see...some fun facts: I'm in my late twenties, I'm married to a great guy who likes to drive me crazy sometimes, but I love it and him, I am one of those people that when asked to do something says "No...Yes" (yeah, I know, I'm stuck in the 90's), I am a total nerd (like you couldn't tell), I am a Trojan (Fight On!), I work in health insurance (fun times-well, I actually work with my sis, so I guess they technically are fun times), I am way too close to my fam and I feel like I'm forgetting something, hmm...oh yeah, I LOVE to read and write!!!

1. I hate onions, but I love onion flavored things like Funyuns or onion dip.

2. I can’t mix too many veggies together. For example, I love carrots, but I’ll pick them out of a salad. I don’t like lettuce on my tacos or burgers.

3. I love dancing! (Not professionally, although I have taken plenty of classes over the years.) I supposedly bopped my head to the music before I could walk.

4. I go to Zumba & Latin Jam every week.

5. I played the piano until I was in college. I can read music, but I hated to do so, so I used to play everything from memory.

6. I speak Russian fluently, but I read like a first grader. Don’t get me started on spelling.

7. I work at the same company (and same building) as my sister, so I see her every day. We’re really close.

8. My sister and I have a 9 year age difference (and were born 4 days apart). We used to celebrate all our birthdays together. (Ironically, my mom and her sister also have a 9 year difference.)

9. I was born on groundhogs day (2/2). It’s also my aunt’s birthday too.

10. My favorite number is 22 (hmmm…I wonder how I got that). My husband’s favorite number is also 22 because he was born 1/22.

11. My first stories were Days of Our Lives fan fictions. They are still up on the website under my screen name fan22.

12. I got my Bachelors degree and my Masters degree from the University of Southern California. Go Trojans! (My sister also went there and got the same degrees I did – I guess you could say I followed in her footsteps.)

13. My whole family loves watching hockey, so it’s no wonder it’s my favorite sport. I love the Los Angeles Kings! (Root for the home team always!)

14. I love Bon Jovi and have seen him/them in concert 5 times.

15. My favorite rose is Fire on Ice. It’s white on the outside and red inside, so that when it blooms, it looks like red on white.

16. I was on the show The Great Pretenders when I younger. We were put into groups and dressed up and lip-synched songs chosen for us. I played the guitarist for The Go-Go’s singing Our Lips Are Sealed.

17. I love to sketch as a hobby, but I can’t sketch people at all. I usually sketch flowers.

18. I was my sister’s maid-of-honor at the age of 15. I didn’t get to go to her bachelorette party.

19. My favorite color is blue, so much so that my wedding colors were ivory and blue.

20. I’ve been married for 3 years, but been with my hubby for over 8 years.

I LOVED this story. Kerri and Ethan are so awesome.
After a one night stand 7 years ago Kerri's friend Natalie throws Ethan back into her life. She quit her job for health and family.
Ethan is determined to get her in his life on a permanent basis. Together they work through the issues of her past as Ethan tries to figure out how to get her forever.
Not only do they have Kerri's problems but Ethan's family company is suffering and his brother is gone.
This story is filled with so much humor, mystery, seriousness and love. I found myself laughing, yelling and being angry at my kindle while reading this story. Their relationship is so real and you are just rooting for them the whole time. A must read if you love romance, comedy dramas

9. Nadia at one point flew so much that she had a black card from United. (Global Services). It was a nice perk, but to "earn it" you have to fly so much you get to be on a first name basis with quite a few cabin attendants.
10. Nadia's official mailing address was a Hilton in San Jose at one point. She kept that address for over a year.
11. Nadia speaks Korean fluently and still reads it faster than English.
12. Despite the fact that Nadia has lived in Japan for a decade, her Japanese is rather poor.
13. Nadia's favorite sashimi is fugu (blowfish).
14. Nadia's Street Team has an apple as its FB group favicon logo. She chose it because it's her son's favorite fruit (and first recognizable word).
15. Nadia doesn't enjoy watching romantic movies in general. She prefers action, suspense or thrillers.
16. Nadia chooses movies according to the hottie factor...then the synopsis.
17. Nadia reads the Wall Street Journal for fun.
18. Nadia wanted to be a plastic surgeon at one point in her life...until she realized she would have to take organic chemistry.
19. Nadia's bought only one car in her life--a Toyota Corolla--which she got in college. (No, she's not in her twenties...)

20. Nadia can still do the most basic antiderivatives (calculus) but she can't add and subtract in her head all that well.

c3 Review. Plus Giveaway!

C3banner

c3c3 Synopsis:

Teddie’s life as a sixteen year old hasn’t always been easy, but nothing has prepared her for the unexpected dangers she encounters as an exchange student in Darjeeling. A frightening world in which young girls are bartered and sold stretches its icy fingers into the beautiful resort town and touches her friends one by one. Terrified, Teddie finds that her own mind develops a unique ability for locating her friends and that an ancient group of mind travelers is willing to train her to use her new skill to save these girls. It will require trust in ideas she barely believes, and more courage than has ever been expected of her. When it becomes clear that the alternative is her friends’ deaths and the unchecked growth of an evil crime lord’s empire, Teddie accepts the challenge and shows those guilty of unspeakable crimes just how powerful a young woman can be.

My Review
4.5/5
So this book is so amazing. It starts out introducing you to all these different people around 10 years before everything happens. The all end up together and work together to end a very horrible situation.
This story is told from so many points of view. It is written in a way that you are able to keep up and tell them apart. Every time it switches it makes sure to say the name of the person. Usually I do not like when stories are told like this, but here it worked. I was able to keep up on what was going on and see the story from all sides.
The one thing that is hard is that this issue is a sensitive one. As a parent its hard to think that this really happens. I like how not only is the story told in a tasteful way, it is interactive. There are links to information that help you know more about the story. It is a must read about a very important topic.

About the 46. Ascending: c3 is part of 46. Ascending, a collection of loosely interrelated novels about five very different family members who each discover that they can do the extraordinary when circumstances require it. These books are designed to be read as stand alone stories or in any order. If you enjoy c3, consider z2, the tale of Teddie’s father as he learns to use his ability to warp time to protect Teddie and her friends against a threat from a violent white supremacy movement at Teddie’s high school. You may also enjoy y1, the story of Teddie’s brother Zane as he develops an odd ability to alter his appearance, and x0, the story of Teddie’s telepathic mother as she finds herself the unlikely hero in a rescue mission in Nigeria. c3 became available on Kindle January 31, 2014. It will be out in paperback and in other electronic bookstores early this summer. The other books in the collection can be purchased now in all formats. Watch for d4, the story of Teddie’s older sister, in late 2014.

Meet the Author

sherrie Sherrie Roth grew up in Western Kansas thinking that there was no place in the universe more fascinating than outer space. After her mother vetoed astronaut as a career ambition, she went on to study journalism and physics in hopes of becoming a science writer. She published her first science fiction short story pretty easily, and then waited a lot of tables while she looked for inspiration for the next story. When it finally came, it declared to her that it had to be whole book, nothing less. One night, while digesting this disturbing piece of news, she drank way too many shots of ouzo with her boyfriend. She woke up thirty-one years later demanding to know what was going on. The boyfriend, who she had apparently long since married, asked her to calm down and explained that in a fit of practicality she had gone back to school and gotten a degree in geophysics and had spent the last 28 years interpreting seismic data in the oil industry. The good news, according to Mr. Cronin, was that she had found it at least mildly entertaining and ridiculously well-paying The bad news was that the two of them had still managed to spend almost all of the money. Apparently she was now Mrs. Cronin, and the further good news was that they had produced three wonderful children whom they loved dearly, even though to be honest that is where a lot of the money had gone. Even better news was that Mr. Cronin turned out to be a warm-hearted, encouraging sort who was happy to see her awake and ready to write. "It's about time," were his exact words. Sherrie Cronin discovered that over the ensuing decades Sally Ride had already managed to become the first woman in space and apparently had done a fine job of it. No one, however, had written the book that had been in Sherrie's head for decades. The only problem was, the book informed her sternly that it had now grown into a six book series. Sherrie decided that she better start writing it before it got any longer. She's been wide awake ever since, and writing away.
